I feel the busy season approaching in our lives. Even though little dude won’t be going to school until next year (PRE-K WHAT?!) I can already feel the rush of life speeding up in September. Lazy days of summer are slowly rolling to a close. Lately, the sun has been setting earlier and earlier. Football season is in full swing. Parenthood returns to our televisions next week. Soon we’ll be really planning out our Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. We finally have a vacation on the books for next month (we’re road tripping up to PDX for some real fall themed fun!). Our calendar is pretty much packed out for next month plus with parties and travel. It’s mostly good stuff, really good stuff.
This morning, it’s really gray and quite cool here. Absolutely my favorite kind of weather. It looks like it could rain, even though it won’t. We’ve been lazing about all morning with books and projects. I made up a delicious batch of pimped out waffles and sipped many cups of hot coffee. Bob Dylan is on iTunes Radio. We have the windows open so we can really enjoy the weather from indoors.
It’s not the autumn we knew when living at the lake. The mornings aren’t cold enough, and the neighborhood won’t smell of fireplaces later this evening. It’s quite different here. The palm trees are lined with twinkle lights (adore!). Our sunsets come early enough to enjoy them at the ocean while suppers finish up in the slow cooker. And we drink obnoxious amounts of warm beverages in tank tops in hopes of ignoring the often 70 degree weather. It’s lovely, but we really miss falling asleep to the rain, changing leaves, and seeing our breath.
That’s why we’re headed up to the Pacific Northwest next month. We need to feed our longing for real autumn. We will wear our rain boots, frolic with friends and explore a place we’ve had a serious crush on forever. Additionally, we’re gonna eat ourselves into a tummy ache. Pacific Northwest, we’re coming for you. Give us your best. ALSO. We’re majorly burned out on real life stuff. We just need a break. Looking forward to disconnecting (I’ll be deleting Twitter and the Facebooks from my iPhone for the first time since we honeymooned!) and road tripping with my favorite dudes. Gosh, I freaking LOVE road trips. Just as much as I love sweater weather and apple cider everything. Apple cider all-the-things.
When we get back from our road trip, it will be time to jump into Halloween and then it will be November. Boom! Happy New Year? It’s gonna be here, like, tomorrow.
